Office Hours Summary 6th December 2009

Attendees: Carbon Philter, 3D Melody, hibit Spad, Luisa Bourgoin, tiffany09 Faith, Raz Welles
hibit wanted to know whether old Primstar scripts should be removed when installing 0.9.x
Yes, they need removing.
Carbon asked about Tom
He's chasing angels instead of birds now
And followed up by asking how old he was
Not entirely sure to be honest.. Keeping track of time isn't one of my strong points... As arranging a meeting two hours later than I meant to shows
Raz arrived in the middle of that discussion and obviously confused asked if we were discussing Primstar 1.0? or?
Cats and time so far.. but yeah we can do Primstar stuff too
Carbon needed to leave early, though he'd arrived at 2pm like I did and used the two hours before the meeting to pick my brains. We talked more about Primstar then than during the actual meeting.
No meeting next week.. Will be launch party for 1.0.0 the weekend after
Luisa mentioned having trouble placing images on a texture.
[16:31] Domino Marama: You can do that without UV mapping.. Add an empty and set the mapping to object, pick the empty as the object and point the Z axis where you want to project the texture
[16:32] Raz Welles: you can also use bake selected to active
[16:33] Domino Marama: or add a 2nd UV layer, scale all the map to 0, select the faces where you want the logo and unwrap just those faces, position on logo image as needed
[16:33] Domino Marama: lots of ways to do the same thing in Blender
[16:35] Domino Marama: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6j3LsjKIlk
[16:36] Domino Marama: I think it's blender newbies that have a tutorial on the empty technique
[16:36] Raz Welles: you'll first want to learn how uv layers work
[16:36] Raz Welles: and unwrapping
[16:37] Raz Welles: just worry about that, the rest falls into place easier if you get that first part
[16:37] Raz Welles: think about cutting a stuffed animal in certain places to lay it out flat on a table
[16:37] Luisa Bourgoin: the learning curve of blender ... you really get only small results in the beginnings
[16:37] Raz Welles: well the thing I've noticed is
[16:38] Raz Welles: blender is uber fast to work with
[16:38] Raz Welles: until you run into something you don't know
[16:38] hibit Spad: yes
[16:38] Raz Welles: then you spend a few days figuring that one thing out
[16:39] Domino Marama: http://blendernewbies.blogspot.com/2007/08/video-basic-decaling-in-blend... there it is
3D wanted to know if there was a limit on the number of prims that could be exported
[16:48] Domino Marama: just the 64k scripts size... not sure how many prims that is
I should have also mentioned the SL limit of 255? 256? prims in a linkset
Raz has yet another feature request
[17:05] Raz Welles: if you don't already have it in yet, what do you think about an option to define whether you want everything baked together in one grid, or baked separately
[17:05] Raz Welles: so if you have a large set, you can select it all and bake individually
[17:06] Raz Welles: for my head, I bake all the big pieces by themselves, and then all the eyeframes together
[17:06] Domino Marama: So turn off joined mesh support and bake each map as though it was a single sculptie?
[17:06] Raz Welles: ok my idea was a bad idea >.> let's not turn that off
[17:06] Raz Welles: hehe
[17:07] Raz Welles: see, we're gasping at straws trying to figure out what it needs
[17:07] Domino Marama: I did consider it, but it's a gui changer and that's already final.. So would be a 1.1.0 feature if I do it
[17:08] Domino Marama: got too many people who've started doing tutorials now to start changing things on them ;)
There was a lot of chat about guitars, programming and my wrist / neck problems then the sim got dizzy, or was it 3D that got dizzy (might have been vertigo from balancing on a pole all meeting)? Either way, a couple of sim crashes later we closed the meeting.
